Poem: Asleep

Asleep

Electric currents,
like a live-wire coursing,
spark at the edges
of my chilly fingertips –

your face warm
in the glow of
unnatural light
that leads me to
your side
in death of night –

I wish that I could
bring you to life
in the midst
of this darkness,

be swallowed up
in your arms like
a seed in the mouth
of a great black bird,

swept away on wings –
our soul-force soaring
in silent simplicity.
